How to wrap handle bar tape on a Time Trial/Tri bike

Postby 2wheels » Wed Aug 05, 2009 9:32 pm

I wasn't originally going to write this, but I needed to rewrap the handlebar tape on my TT bike, and what the heck, this may be useful for someone.

Supplies Needed:
Box of handlebar tape
Electrical Tape
Razor blade.

A box of handlebar tape comes with the supplies pictured. The extra cork and tape ends aren't used for a TT bike, but they are used for a road bike.

1: Unwrap existing tape.
2: Be sure that all brake cables and shifting cables are securely taped down. You don't want these moving around under the tape.

3: Start the tape on one the handle bars on the bottom inside of the bar. Tape the end of the cork down and wrap

4: Continue wrapping. Overlap about 1/2 of each layer of tape with the next layer. When you get to the end of the taped area, trim the end at a right angle to the bar

5: Securely tape the end of the cork tape with electrical tape. Overlap quite a bit, you don't want this to move at all.

6: Ride
7: Enjoy
8: Go fast and win

Yeah it does. Right now, I think my tape is ok, but in the future, I think I might do red or white.
